Today I let myself be inspired by John Waters and the inimitable Divine for my Fancy Ladynails. The use of sparkly leopard print and an asymmetrical slice are tribute to a scene in one of my favorite all-time movies, Female Trouble. Divine plays Dawn Davenport, a ne'er-do-well teen runaway turned petty criminal and international style sensation. After her face is marred by an acid-flinging in-law, Dawn is taken in by the Dashers, who own the exclusive Lipstick Beauty Salon, and their promises of a modelling career built on her 'unique' look. In the scene that inspired today's Ladynails, Dawn is newly released from hospital, has a closet full of fabulous clothes, and proudly struts her stuff through downtown Baltimore.
For today's look, I used a combination of a grey polish and leopard-print nail stickers. I laid down a layer of grey and then put the cut sticker on top, filing off the excess sticker at the top of the nail and then covering everything with a clear topcoat. For the pinkies and one thumb, I used no grey, only the complete sticker. The other thumb I painted completely grey.
